Ras Negus I / Gebre Negus Morgan was born in Kingston, Jamaica. Ras Negus I’s first ambition was to become a school teacher after graduating from mona high school with the subjects required. The community Dread heights in the August town area where Negus was born and raised always had a convey belt for talent of all sorts and music was no exception. Negus was expose to sound systems and live performances from a very early age seeing the likes of Brigadier "The General" Jerry, Freddie Mcgregor, Dennis Brown, Fred locks, Jah Love sound system and the twelve tribes of Israel band to name a few. This inspired Negus to follow his musical path however Mama Ruth saw the academic’s as more of a priority. It was not until Negus graduated high school when he linked up with 3 of his bredrins to form a musical movement known then as the ‘Orthodox Family’ (Pampi Judah,Israel Voice and Natural Black). Negus went to America for a short while where he had one of his most memorable performance’s which was alongside the crown prince Dennis Brown, then shortly after he moved to the UK where in a short time he was dubbed one of the young lions of roots music. Since then, he has performed with the likes of Freddie Mcgregor, Capleton, Morgan Heritage, Black Uhuru, Sir David Rodigan, Twinkle Brothers, Fred Locks, The Abyssinians, Big Youth to name a few. Negus is now based in Birmingham UK and currently working on a project with release’s ready to come out late summer.
